A native of North Carolina, pianist Liz Barnes has been teaching and performing for 20 years. Liz moved to Norfolk, Virginia in 1988 and quickly made a name for herself in the blues scene playing with well-known regional acts and performing as an opening act for many acclaimed blues artists such as Anson Funderburgh and Sam Meyers, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Delbert McClinton, the Nighthawks and Sapphire, just to name a few. Liz toured with Ichiban recording artist Bobby Mesano, as well as headlined the Lowell Folk Festival in Lowell, Mass. while playing with Frankie Lee and the Blues Blasters.
While Liz’s piano style is firmly rooted in the blues, it reflects the whole jazz tradition from bebop to modernism. She has performed extensively as a solo jazz pianist as well as with small ensembles and big bands. She has shared the stage with such jazz greats as Frank Foster, Ingred Jensen and Tommy Newsom. |
